The kindness: My son wanted to have lunch at Cafe Flore, a place I had never been. As we were eating, he noticed a group of people waiting and realized that if we moved over a table, they could all fit. I hopped up and asked them if they wanted us to make room. They told me that they were getting something to go so didn’t need to sit down. I noticed their matching T-shirts and realized they worked for a church that helped so much with hurricane relief. I told them how much I appreciated their work. I offered to take a photo of them in front of the wings that just happened to be on the wall behind them. It’s important to call out angels when you see them. We had such a great exchange, and everyone smiled.

The science of kindness: Research shows that giving out compliments makes the recipient feel good as well as the compliment giver. It also fosters genuine connection.
