I called my 93-year-old Aunt Maha today. She's an amazing person - rode her bike across Italy alone at the age of 70. She's a recent widow and I try to stay in touch regularly. (Photo: Visiting her in Savannah last year.) Call a senior and wish them a Happy New Year. Cost: $0

The science of kindness: Studies have shown that seniors who regularly communicate with others in their family or in their community are generally healthier and happier – and experience lower rates of chronic illness, less anxiety and depression, better cognitive health, improved mobility, and even increased longevity.
