I called Animal Rescue Rhode Island to see if they needed anything. This rescue organization offers kindness and care to animals who have been sick, injured or abused. I showed up with towels, peanut butter, dog treats and cat toys. The bonus was meeting Mindy, a staffer, and Vino, a happy dog. Mindy gave Vino one of the treats I brought and his tail wagged like crazy.

The science of kindness: Research shows that spending time with animals reduces anxiety and stress. So, when you donate AND get to play with animals - it’s like a magic feel-good tonic. I was bursting with happiness after I spent time with Vino and the staff. Cost: $4.09. I had so many credits at CVS from coupons and extra bucks that it covered all the dog snacks. The two cat toys cost $3. I already had the peanut butter and old towels.
