Day 40 of a year of Kindness

Today is the beginning of Random Acts of Kindness Week and it began with a bang. To my surprise and delight, my random act of kindness was interrupted by another random act of kindness at the same time! Last night we had a big snow storm. I got up early and decided to take a walk in the winter wonderland. I waved to a man who was ploughing his driveway. I saw all of the neighborhood mailboxes covered in snow - some had been blown open. I wiped off all of the snow and closed them up. About 10 minutes later, in the same neighborhood, I was scraping the snow off my mother’s car. Out of the blue, the man I waved to earlier, drove by in his plough, and saw that my mother’s driveway was blocked by piles of snow. So, while I was scraping off her car, this snow angel cleared out her driveway. He gave me the thumbs up. I smiled and gave him the thumbs up. We didn’t exchange a word. It felt like kindness is contagious in action! What a great way to start this snowy day.

Science of kindness: Research shows that kindness is contagious. A Harvard study found that kindness also affects our friends, our friends’ friends, and our friends’ friends’ friends. Kindness ripples out to a radius of three social steps. That is why some people believe that kindness can change the world. #kindnessmatters #kindness #kindnessiscontagious @10kindnessclub
