Day 64 of a year of Kindness

My mother needed a plumber. The last plumber didn’t solve the problem and even left some of his equipment behind. She called another plumber and I made sure I was there this time. The plumber, Preston, showed up with a big smile. My mother rested on her bed while 22-year-old Preston fixed her toilet. They solved all the world’s problems and both laughed and laughed.

Later, we told him what a great personality he had and what a wonderful job he did fixing the toilet. He told us that he “never gets compliments.” So, we gave him some more compliments. When I told him that I would also give him a good review, he said he should give us a good review. My mother is still chuckling about how much fun she had talking to Preston. It reminded me again how much better life is - and how much more fun it is - when you are kind.

Science of kindness:There is ample research that sharing recognition, gratitude or appreciation gives the receiver a boost. Compliments offer a mood-lifting effect. Studies also show that people often overestimate how awkward a compliment might be and underestimate how much it would mean to the person. Ultimately, it’s less awkward than you think and means more to the person that you would imagine. #kindness #kindnessiscontagious @10kindnessclub @kindnessisfree
