This is my earliest kindness! I got a notification that my New York Times subscription was ending, and my bill would increase. So, I hopped on a live chat and asked if I could continue my subscription at the lower rate I have been paying. I always try extra hard to be nice because these systems are not designed for kindness. There is a real person at the end of a live chat. The same goes for tedious phone calls about bills where you must press a bunch of numbers and then wait on hold. It’s not their fault that the customer service system isn’t designed to be customer service friendly. I always address the person who responds by name and say please and thank you. If it’s on the phone I ask a personal question about the weather or how their day is going. So, today I was kind to Melissa and she appreciated it. I also got to keep my lower rate!
Science of kindness: I am interrupting today’s science of kindness with a quote from the Dalai Lama: "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." #kindnessmatters #kindness #kindnessiscontagious @10kindnessclub
