I mailed a card and a photo to a long-lost friend. We called this our Thelma & Louise photo. It was taken years ago when we were graduate students at the University of Missouri and planned to set the world right as journalists. She was my bestie as we navigated making some good and terrible choices. Once during the great floods of Missouri, as caskets were unearthed from cemeteries and floating down the Mississippi and Missouri rivers, we sat in a coffee shop because we didn’t have air conditioning, and the temps were sweltering that summer. She was doing her taxes in July, and I was sipping tea in a coffee shop and eating the best chocolate chip cookie. I remember thinking that you can have a perfect moment in the worst of times. I spoke to her a few years ago and promised to send that photo and never did. So, I did that today along with a long letter. I wanted her to know I still think of her all the time.
