Day 112 of a year of Kindness
I was a guest speaker at Florida Gulf Coast University. Dr. Maria Roca was kind enough to invite me to her class. Britt Leoni and Todd Ofenbeck, with Gulf Coast News, came out to do a story about kindness in the classroom and fit right in.I gave the students a challenge at the end of class. This Thursday - April 24 - is Do1Give Day. Jacqueline Way is encouraging people to use the power of social media to create an algorithm of good at #Do1Give Day. The students brainstormed about what they could post. We also discussed why it feels like bragging to post a good deed on social media. It's confusing because our culture makes us feel self-conscious about sharing kindness but tolerates all types of hateful language and behavior. Kindness is contagious and has a ripple effect. It's the perfect way to combat hate and change people's lives for the better. It's really the opposite of bragging - it's a service.
Science of kindness: Research reveals that kindness can change the world by creating a ripple effect. A small gesture can inspire someone else to pay it forward, spreading positivity far beyond what we can see. One person. One kindness. One kinder world. #kindness #kindnessiscontagious #kindnessisfree #bekind #fgcu #wingsup #gulfcoastnews #Do1Give
